Welcome to the JCS!
The Solmonese Parents Organization (SPO) is dedicated to supporting the school, its students, parents, and community! Our purpose is to build a great community, create a sense of family in our school, fundraise for necessary items, teach our children the importance of involvement, and build pride in our school! The SPO helps with fundraising and activity planning that benefit the entire school. Fall activities include:
We have two major fundraising events during the academic year:
We will continue with school-wide, yearlong participation in the Box Tops for Education program, Abitibi paper retriever, Baystate Textile Recycling, Stop & Shop A+ Rewards, and Juice Pouch Brigade. The SPO funds all enrichment programs, offsets the cost of field trips, plans teacher appreciation events, and offers other school-wide activities. Come help us decide what projects we are taking on and funding this year! Meeting dates can be found here or in the blog calendar. We typically meet the second Wednesday of the month at 7 PM in the JCS Library; although, our first meeting has been changed to Thursday, September 15th at 7 PM. The SPO was successful in completing the installation of two beautiful playgrounds and memorial area at JCS within the past several years as well as providing brand new area rugs for every classroom and purchasing 24 new Kindles. The generous support of the amazing families at our school made this possible. JCS has a wonderful school community. The SPO is easily contacted in several ways:
We hope to see you at our monthly meetings and at the numerous wonderful events that occur during the school year. With your help, we can make this a successful school year! Sincerely, SPO Board On April 12 at 6:30 pm at the Norton Middle School there will be a High Stakes Testing Forum which you are encouraged to attend. This is a presentation by the Massachusetts Teachers Association and your Norton teachers on the PARCC and MCAS tests. You will be able to share your own thoughts and experiences regarding these tests.
These are your children and this is your chance to voice concern supporting or opposing these tests which have high stakes attached to their results. Please read this flyer for more information. The LG and JCS students performed "America the Beautiful" and "God Bless America" at the Providence Bruins game back in February! They did a fantastic job!!
The JCS SPO invites you to an evening of hockey, fun and a special performance by the JCS chorus on Friday, February 12th 2016 at 7:05 pm at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence RI. Come watch the Providence Bruins take on the Hershey Bears! The ticket order form and more information is now available here or on our Events and Programs tab, and will also be sent home with your child. Hope to see you there!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
The JCS Night at the Providence Bruins will take place on Friday, February 12th @ 7:05 pm. Flyers with all the details will be posted here and sent home in January. The JCS Friendship Directory has been delivered via email to those who provided contact information. If you did not receive the JCS Friendship Directory and you feel this is in error, please email jcsfriendship@gmail.com. If you hoped to be included but did not find a moment to fill out the form, you can do it now by clicking here or following the Friendship tab above! An updated JCS Friendship Directory will be sent in a month or two. Thank you to all who participated!
Hello JCS families!
There are many family-friendly upcoming fall events around Norton and some that include supporting our JCS community. Each October weekend the Winslow Farm Animal Sanctuary, located at 37 Eddy Street in Norton hosts their Octoberfest with children-friendly haunted trails and more. There is an entry fee. More information such as times, cost and activities can be found here. Saturday, October 17th the YMCA will have their Fall Festival and Haunted Happenings at the Norton outdoor location, 295 West Main Street. There is a fee of $20.00 for families and $8.00 for individuals. More information can be found here. . Sunday, October 25th will be a fun filled day! The Chartley Halloween Parade will begin at noon. The parade begins near JCS at the Attleboro/Norton line and ends near the Norton middle school. It's a great mix of festive flare, costumes and flying candy! The JCS-SPO is collecting candy donations for our "BIG TOP"JCS float. If you'd like to help, please send in a bag of candy with your child, or drop it off in the box located in the school lobby by October 23rd! Directly following the parade, Wheaton College is hosting a Trick-or-Treat Spooktacular! The free event begins at 2pm with the last trick-or-treat group departing at 4:10. The Spooktacular will take place in Beard Hall located at the intersection of Howard Street and Fillmore Drive. Parking is nearby in Lot 8, located on Fillmore Drive near the Athletic Center. A campus map can be found here - Beard Hall is listed as building 34. For more information call Dallas Flint at 508.286.8214 Friday October 30th, the Norton library will run two showings (11 am and 1pm) of the 21-minute movie Toy Story of Terror, a slightly spooky movie for your littlest goblins! The library also welcomes children to visit with their costumes Friday the 30th or Saturday the 31st from 10am to 2 pm for a sweet bookmark! (while supplies last). The event listings can be found here. Saturday, October 31st, is the day to out-run Halloween ghouls! Support the Norton Cross-Country boosters by participating in The Running Dead Zombie 5K Run or the 1/2 mile Little Pumpkins Dash. The races begin at 10:15 am at the Norton High School. There are prizes and an entry fee. More information can be found here. For more events in neighboring towns visit Hulafrog. Happy Halloween everyone! Our JCS family runs the JCS Clothes Closet, a kids’ clothing hand-me-down exchange program. We will be taking clothing donations for the program starting tomorrow September 30th through Friday, October 2nd. If you have fall and/or winter clothing that your children have outgrown and you’d like to pass them along to someone in our own JCS community, we would love to have them! Bagged clothing can be dropped at the JCS cafeteria/stage door.
The clothes should be in good condition – clean, stain free, no holes, working zippers, etc. This includes winter boots, barely worn dress shoes, and sneakers if they are in great condition. At this point we are keeping the drive for children’s clothing only. Clothing will be available for the taking at the JCS Fall Festival, Sunday, October 4th from 12-3. Thank you in advance for your help, and if you have any questions on the JCS Clothes Closet, please feel free to contact Sara Lyons at sealyons11@comcast.net. p.s. With winter coming, donations of winter coats and snow clothes are much appreciated! Each year the Solmonese Parent Organization creates a JCS Friendship Directory for our school. This directory includes student names indexed by classroom and is handy for party invitations, homework questions, and more. Families can choose to add contact information such as an email address, phone number and/or home address. If you would like to contribute your contact information, click here or on the Friendship tab above. You may include as much or as little information as you would like! The complete directory will be sent to you by email in just a few weeks. Please fill out the form by October 9th to participate!
